Chilled Morning ~ A Poem from my Fifteen-Year-Old Son

ImageChilled Morning
Jeff Rupert

I wake on a stiff mat and jump to the wooden floor
Rising I don new clothes and pass bunks on my way to the door
The quiet cabin’s silence is broken by the creaking of hinges,
As a cold blue light invites the forest ambiance in
Jogging down the rough gravel trail,
Lit by light filtered through treetops above
Gentle yet piercing air clears my drowsiness
Running through the clearing, stopping to look,
The lake, clear as a mirror but with swirling mist,
Reflects the cloudless blue sky as if to say “It’s morning.”
